About.
Growing up in the countryside I have always been drawn to natural fibres and colours as well as traditional craft skills. I taught myself to spin yarn from the fleeces of my family sheep, and naturally dye them using plants from our local area.
Following my degree in Textile Design at Falmouth University, where I specialised in weaving, I spent several years working as a freelance woven textile designer. Later I started evening pottery classes in London and was instantly hooked. For the past 8 years I have been developing my ceramic practise at various shared studios across London, Bath and Oxfordshire. I am particularly inspired by the shapes and glazes of Japanese ceramics, and have recently started experimenting with making my own wood ash glazes.
I enjoy travelling, seeking out countries which have a rich history of artisan crafts, learning through hands on experience the different techniques of working with fibre and clay. I have taken part in a wood firing course in Devon and pit firing in the Rif mountains of Morocco. I have done floor loom weaving in India, and tried backstrap weaving in Peru and Indonesia.
I now work as a Homewares Product Developer for Toast based in London, developing and sourcing fabrics and ceramics from artisans around the world, and spend my spare time at the pottery wheel or weaving loom.
